Sharjah has waived participation fees for Sudanese publishers at SIBF 2025, reinforcing its cultural support for Arab publishing.
SHARJAH: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a directive to exempt Sudanese publishers from participation fees at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). The compassionate move aims to support Sudan’s publishing sector amid ongoing humanitarian and economic challenges.
Supervised by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the initiative continues Sharjah’s leadership in cultural solidarity and knowledge preservation. It enables Sudanese publishers and writers to maintain a presence on the Arab literary stage while expanding access to new audiences.
H.H. Sheikha Bodour said the move reflects the Ruler’s unwavering belief that knowledge must endure, regardless of the situation. “Books should always be bridges between communities. Sudanese culture remains a vital thread in Arab identity,” she stated.
By waiving fees, Sharjah ensures that Sudanese creatives can participate in one of the world’s largest literary gatherings without financial burden, preserving their voice in global dialogue. The Sharjah Ruler waives SIBF fees initiative is also aligned with the emirate’s wider efforts to protect Arab cultural heritage and sustain publishing communities affected by crises.
Sharjah has consistently supported publishers in conflict-affected countries, launching similar programmes in recent years. This latest gesture underscores the emirate’s dedication to maintaining intellectual production and protecting the region’s cultural legacy.
The 44th SIBF continues to be a powerful platform for literary exchange, and Sudanese publishers’ inclusion will enrich the fair’s diversity and storytelling landscape.
