SHARJAH: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) is advancing economic collaboration with Kerala, India, focusing on key sectors like trade, tourism, and industry.
A pivotal meeting at SCCI’s headquarters brought together Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and P. Rajeeve, Kerala’s Minister for Law, Industries, and Coir. The discussion revolved around enhancing international commercial arbitration, improving trade exchanges, and leveraging existing partnerships between the UAE and India.
Key attendees included SCCI board members and officials from both regions, alongside representatives from the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre (Tahkeem), which plays a significant role in resolving commercial disputes and promoting arbitration.
The meeting underscored plans to intensify interactions between investors and business leaders from both sides. These collaborations aim to foster expertise sharing, identify potential partnerships, and establish joint investment projects that benefit both economies.
P. Rajeeve invited SCCI members to the Invest Kerala Global Summit 2025, scheduled for February 21–22 at the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Centre. Al Owais commended the robust UAE-India partnership, highlighting the UAE’s position as India’s third-largest trading partner. Non-oil trade between the two nations reached $53.8 billion in the first 10 months of 2024, a 22.6% increase from 2023.
The meeting spotlighted Kerala’s “Come on Kerala” exhibition, a prominent Indian trade festival in the Middle East hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, which showcases investment opportunities in both regions.
Sharjah and Kerala also emphasised their advanced legislative frameworks designed to attract foreign investment. SCCI highlighted Tahkeem’s initiatives, including specialised seminars and training to foster economic understanding and growth.
This collaboration represents a significant step toward strengthening economic ties, promoting joint ventures, and enhancing trade relations between Sharjah and Kerala.
