Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed road widening works spanning 1 kilometer at two sites in Al Jaddaf and Business Bay.

The first site, located in Al Jaddaf, involved widening Al Khail Road by 600 meters, adding a new lane to enhance traffic flow towards Deira. At the second site, near the entrance to Business Bay, Al Khail Road was widened by 435 meters, introducing an additional lane.

These enhancements form part of the RTA’s broader efforts to alleviate congestion and enhance the overall efficiency of road infrastructure throughout Dubai. The project aims to benefit users of Al Khail Road, residents of neighboring communities and developments, as well as patrons of commercial establishments along the route.

Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, Hamad Al Shehhi, said, “Al Khail Road is a vital traffic corridor in Dubai, witnessing a surge in vehicle movement. RTA was keen to add a new lane at Al Jaddaf, increasing the number of lanes to six and boosting the road’s capacity by about 2,000 vehicles per hour, which has reduced congestion by 25 percent.”

“The surface expansion of Al Khail Road at the entrance to the Business Bay area will improve the flow of traffic entering the Business Bay area from Al Khail Road and enhance traffic safety in that sector in the direction of Abu Dhabi. Further improvements will be undertaken at several locations on Al Khail Road as part of Al Khail Road Improvement Project, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024,” Al Shehhi added.
