Dubai: Hundreds of employees from the Emirates Group gathered in the Dubai desert to achieve a new Guinness World Records title for the Most nationalities in a yoga lesson. This wellness initiative, designed to kick-start the new year, saw participants from an impressive 144 different nationalities taking part at sunset.

Reflecting the diverse workforce of the Emirates Group, which includes over 110,000 employees, the event showcased unity and inclusion. Participants from countries as far-reaching as Chile, Peru, Mexico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honduras, Mongolia, Tonga, and The Bahamas contributed to the success of the record-breaking attempt.

Hosted at the Al Lisaili Camp managed by Arabian Adventures, a brand of the Emirates Group, this event marked the first time a world record attempt was taken to the desert. The location provided a unique and picturesque setting for the participants.

The previous record, set in 2023 in New York City, involved 135 nationalities gathered on the lawn of the United Nations headquarters. The successful attempt in Dubai now stands as a testament to the rich multicultural tapestry of the Emirates Group.

Oliver Grohmann, Senior Vice President Human Resources at Emirates Group, expressed pride in celebrating the diversity of the company. He highlighted Dubai’s global appeal and emphasized the Emirates Group’s role as a truly multinational company.

The record-breaking yoga session was conducted by trained Emirates Group staff who are also yoga practitioners. As part of the wellness initiative, a Senior Counsellor from the Group’s Psychology Unit and a certified mindfulness teacher conducted a wellbeing session to promote a healthy mindset for the new year. The event featured chill-out music from a DJ of the dnata Travel Group and the soothing sounds of a ‘tongue drum,’ often associated with meditation and healing.

In line with the commitment to sustainability, the yoga mats provided were made from biodegradable cork, and reusable water bottles were distributed to all participants, contributing to the Emirates Group’s dedication to hosting zero-waste events. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of all Emirates Group employees, with plans for more activities focused on fitness, health, and overall wellbeing in 2024.
