ABU DHABI: The shift towards electric vehicles in Abu Dhabi is gaining pace, with 10,013 electric and 11,139 hybrid vehicles officially registered by March 2024. This marks an 81% increase in EV numbers from 2022 to 2023, showing the emirate’s accelerating journey towards sustainable transportation.

Abdulla Alhashmi, Acting Director at Abu Dhabi Mobility’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector, confirmed the figures while highlighting the emirate’s expanding infrastructure. Public EV charging stations have grown to 313 across Abu Dhabi, with more planned through private sector partnerships.

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) will also play a key role at EVIS 2025—the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit—showcasing its strategic green mobility projects. This event gathers top minds from the MENA region and globally to discuss innovations in the EV space.

Abu Dhabi Mobility is positioning itself at the forefront of electric transport innovation, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy. The centre aims to create an intelligent, climate-conscious transport system that boosts global competitiveness and supports long-term environmental goals.

Alhashmi stated that Abu Dhabi’s participation in EVIS 2025 underlines its ambition to lead the region in smart electric mobility. Through strategic collaborations with industry leaders, Abu Dhabi is developing solutions to shape the future of green mobility—ensuring not just cleaner air but a smarter commute for all.

As electric and hybrid vehicle ownership continues to rise and more charging points pop up across the city, Abu Dhabi is quickly becoming a model for cities aiming to go green and drive into the future.
