KUWAIT: In a game-changing moment for the region, Kuwait has discovered four billion barrels of oil at two sites — Al-Nokhtha-1 and Al-Julaia-2 — thanks to the power of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
The announcement came during the regional training programme “Digital Transformation and its Applications in the Oil and Gas Sector,” organised by the Arab Energy Organization (AEO) and Egypt’s ENPPI. AEO Secretary General Jamal Al-Loughani revealed that smart tech, including AI, IoT, and big data, played a key role in locating the new reserves.
Al-Loughani highlighted that digital tools are transforming oil and gas operations — improving efficiency, accuracy, and productivity across exploration, production, and distribution. These breakthroughs are not just tech upgrades, but strategic shifts in the region’s energy game.
He emphasised the need to build digital talent across member states and applauded Egypt’s early adoption through its Petroleum Sector Development and Modernisation Programme, which set up digital centres and upgraded national E&P portals.
Kuwait’s discoveries, he noted, are proof of how digital transformation in oil is boosting results. The training programme, running from April 13 to 15, includes 130 professionals from across the Arab region and dives deep into AI tools, cybersecurity, asset management, and data analytics.
ENPPI Chairman Wael Lotfy added that smart digital solutions are the future for energy companies aiming to increase asset efficiency, workplace safety, and data-driven decision-making. He called the programme a platform for regional cooperation, innovation and tech skill-building.
Kuwait’s breakthrough sets a benchmark for the region — blending tradition with tech to fuel a smarter energy future.
