Dubai Municipality confirms it is operating 24/7 emergency response teams and infrastructure systems to mitigate the effects of ongoing heavy rainfall and unstable weather.
DUBAI: As unstable weather continues across the UAE, Dubai Municipality has affirmed that its specialised emergency teams are working around the clock to manage the impact of heavy rainfall across the emirate. These actions follow the authority’s long-term strategy to ensure infrastructure resilience and rapid emergency response during weather fluctuations.
The municipality said it had activated a comprehensive emergency response system operating 24/7, staffed by trained field teams supported by advanced logistics and modern pumping equipment. These teams have been deployed across the city to address water accumulation, blockages and service disruption, ensuring smooth traffic flow and community safety.
In preparation for the weather event, Dubai Municipality completed preventive and technical checks, including the inspection and maintenance of more than 84,000 drainage inlets in partnership with real estate developers and free zones. The network’s performance was further boosted by installing 60 kilometres of above-ground pumping lines and constructing six temporary lakes to reduce pressure on the primary system.
Rainwater collection infrastructure with a storage capacity of 600,000 cubic metres has been developed, supported by direct connections to 10 key outfalls including Dubai Creek, the sea, Dubai Water Canal, and the deep tunnel system. This setup allows for faster and safer discharge of rainwater during peak conditions.
Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Head of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team and CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, said, “Our approach to managing weather fluctuations is based on preparedness, infrastructure resilience and operational flexibility. This year, we have implemented advanced engineering solutions to ensure community safety and continuity of daily life during adverse weather.”
He added that Dubai Municipality places strong emphasis on coordination with other government entities involved in emergency management. Pre-approved private-sector contracts are in place to support large-scale water pumping and transportation if required.
The authority has also conducted field simulation drills to train its technical teams and improve their ability to handle live emergency reports. These exercises are part of broader efforts to raise response speed and efficiency, while maintaining constant communication with the public.
Community members are urged to follow official weather bulletins and public safety advice. Any reports of waterlogging or emergencies can be made through the Dubai Municipality Contact Centre on 800900 or via WhatsApp.
