DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has highlighted major accessibility improvements across public parks and beaches, making recreational spaces more inclusive for People of Determination, senior citizens and families.
The municipality confirmed that 80% of public parks and 90% of public beaches meet accessibility requirements, reflecting its commitment to creating barrier-free public spaces. The figures were first announced in October 2025 and highlighted again in recent reporting.
Major Parks Receive Accessibility Upgrades
Popular destinations, including Mushrif National Park, Zabeel Park, Safa Park, Creek Park, Al Mamzar Beach Park and Quranic Park, have undergone accessibility improvements.
The upgrades include wheelchair-friendly pathways, ramps, Braille signage, accessible restrooms and dedicated parking spaces.
Visitors can also use adapted playground equipment and specially designed seating arrangements.
Some park benches feature central spaces for wheelchairs, allowing visitors with mobility challenges to sit alongside family members.
Dubai Public Parks also provides free wheelchairs and accessible golf carts to help visitors move around comfortably.
Special Facilities for Autistic Visitors
Dubai Municipality has introduced quiet rooms for visitors with autism and sensory sensitivities.
Trained staff, including employees familiar with sign language, provide additional assistance to visitors who need support.
Meanwhile, Jumeirah Beach 2 became Dubai’s first beach to receive Gold Accessibility Certification from the World Disability Union in 2026.
The beach also introduced a dedicated sensory room, strengthening accessibility for visitors with autism.
Beaches Become More Inclusive
Accessible beaches offer ramps, designated parking, adapted restrooms and specialised beach wheelchairs.
These facilities help residents and tourists with mobility challenges enjoy waterfront activities more independently.
Impact to Expect
The improvements will make outdoor recreation easier for People of Determination and their families.
They also strengthen Dubai’s position as an inclusive tourism destination while encouraging wider participation in public activities.
