Dubai Metro is set to add 29 new station locations through the Blue and Gold Line expansions.
Dubai’s Metro map is set for a major transformation, with around 29 new station locations expected across the city as work advances on the Blue Line and plans progress for the Gold Line.
The expansion will bring rail connectivity to residential, business, education and tourism districts that currently depend heavily on cars, taxis and buses.
However, there is an important distinction. Officially, the Blue Line will have 14 stations, while the Gold Line is planned with 18 stations. The frequently cited figure of 29 refers to new station locations after existing interchange points are taken into account.
Blue Line stations and locations
The 30-kilometre Blue Line is already under construction and is scheduled to open on September 9, 2029. It will connect the existing Red and Green lines and serve nine key districts.
Locations identified along the route include:
Academic City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City 3, International City 2, International City 1, Al Warqa, Mirdif, Ras Al Khor, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Festival City, Al Jaddaf / Creek interchange, Al Rashidiya / Centrepoint interchange
International City will become one of the line’s major hubs, while existing Creek and Centrepoint stations will provide connections with the Green and Red lines respectively.
Dubai Creek Harbour will also feature the landmark Emaar Properties Station, a 74-metre-high structure planned to become the world’s tallest Metro station.
Gold Line locations
The planned 42-kilometre Gold Line is expected to have 18 underground stations and is targeted to open in 2032.
Locations shown or identified along the planned corridor include:
Al Ghubaiba, Al Mina / Mina Rashid, Al Satwa, Al Satwa Road, City Walk, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai / Burj Khalifa Road, District One, District One / Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, Dubai Hills, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens, Global Village,Dubai Miracle Garden / Arjan, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City / Jumeirah Golf Estates corridor
Some exact Gold Line station names and positions remain provisional rather than final passenger-facing names, so they could change as detailed engineering and construction plans progress.
New Metro links for major communities
The expansion could be particularly significant for neighbourhoods such as JVC, Satwa, Mirdif, Dubai Hills and Dubai Silicon Oasis, which currently have no Metro station directly within their communities.
The Gold Line is also expected to create important connections with the existing Metro network and Etihad Rail, strengthening Dubai’s position as part of the wider UAE passenger rail system.
Once completed, the Blue Line alone will extend Dubai Metro to 131 kilometres and 78 stations, while the subsequent Gold Line will further expand the network.
Impact to expect
For residents, the biggest impact will be direct Metro access to communities that currently rely on road transport. The expansion could shorten commutes, reduce congestion and make destinations such as Academic City, Dubai Creek Harbour, JVC, Dubai Hills and Global Village significantly easier to reach.
