IPL style India’s First Women’s Kabaddi league kicks start in Dubai

Dubai: After the success of the pro kabaddi league, now it’s the girl’s turn to strike. India’s first Women’s Kabaddi League was inaugurated on 16th June in Dubai.

This is the first time that women kabaddi players from all over India are getting a chance to showcase their skills and ability to the world. 8 teams composed of 96 players are participating in this league and their names are on the theme of Indian states, such as Delhi Dynamites, Gujrat Angels, Great Marathas, Haryana Hustlers, Punjab Panthers, Rajasthan Riders, Uma Kolkata, and Bengaluru Hawks. The winning team will receive close to half a million dirhams (1 crore INR).

Bollywood legend Govinda attended the inaugural event of Dubai’s first IPL-style Women’s Kabaddi League and unveiled the trophy. APS Sports, the main organizer of WKL announced that this generous reward demonstrates the league’s commitment to recognizing and appreciating the hard work, dedication, and talent exhibited by these extraordinary athletes. The Women’s Kabaddi League will take place for 12 days from June 16 to 27th at the Shabab Al Ahli Sports Club, Dubai. The league aims to raise the profile of kabaddi in the UAE and empower women athletes from India, providing them with a platform to showcase their exceptional talent and inspire a new generation of kabaddi enthusiasts.

Pradeep Kumar Nehra, organizer of WKL Founder of APS Sports, and an entrepreneur from Rajasthan said, “Women’s Kabaddi League will be a thrilling sporting extravaganza, with 96 exceptional athletes from India competing for the prestigious championship. The league is designed to showcase the incredible agility, strength, and strategic prowess of these remarkable women, elevating the status of kabaddi as an internationally celebrated sport. As this is the first season, we can see the enthusiasm of the Indian community at court. We are expecting that after the success of the first season, many celebrities from other areas will join us for its coming seasons.”
