DUBAI: Dubai’s public transport system experienced an unprecedented New Year’s Eve passenger surge, with 2,502,474 people using its services during the 2025 celebrations. This marked a 9.3% increase from the 2,288,631 passengers recorded during last year’s festivities, reflecting the city’s exceptional mobility infrastructure.

The Dubai Metro proved to be the backbone of the system, transporting 1,133,251 riders across its Red and Green lines. The Dubai Tram added to this success with 55,391 passengers, while public buses played a significant role, carrying 465,779 commuters. Marine transport services, such as ferries and abras, ferried 80,066 people across the city’s waterways.

E-hailing services proved vital, accommodating 195,651 passengers, while shared transport vehicles catered to 1,238 riders. Taxis, a staple of Dubai’s mobility network, carried an impressive 571,098 passengers, ensuring connectivity to key celebration spots.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) credited this success to a meticulously planned strategy executed in collaboration with various entities in Dubai. This approach ensured smooth and safe travel to major New Year’s Eve venues, including Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa, which were at the centre of the celebrations.

The New Year’s Eve passenger surge showcases Dubai’s world-class transport system, underscoring its commitment to innovation and urban sustainability. The seamless coordination during this event highlights the city’s ability to handle large-scale gatherings with remarkable efficiency.

This record-breaking achievement not only reinforces Dubai’s status as a global mobility leader but also reflects its dedication to providing top-tier services during peak events.
