Numerous accessibility changes were introduced by Apple last month as part of the iOS 17 preview, which would soon be available on its devices. The “Personal Voice” feature, which analyzes users’ speech patterns and creates voice “clones” that can be vocalized, was one that stuck out.

Now, the technological behemoth has revealed at the most recent WWDC that the feature would debut alongside other improvements for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS Sonoma.

‘Personal Voice’ will be especially helpful to people with degenerative disorders like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To get things started, the user only needs to record 15 minutes of audio, which gives them a newfound sense of power over communication.

A companion function called “Live Speech” will work in conjunction with the first by enabling users to write in any desired text that will then be vocalized in their cadence to others on a phone conversation, FaceTime, or even stored as frequently-used phrases to be utilized face-to-face.

Additionally, the ‘Point and Speak’ feature will help blind or low vision individuals read text on everyday devices aloud so they can understand exactly what is written on the controls of a washing machine or microwave.

Not only that. In order to prevent vision issues like myopia, other health features will be added to the mix, such as a daylight sensor and screen distance detection system that will warn kids when they are too close to the device.
