Mehfil e Urdu 2023: “Chalte Chalte” in honour of Meena Kumari

Dubai: Bazm e Urdu Dubai is set to present its annual cultural extravaganza, Mehfil e Urdu, at Emirates International School Dubai on December 24, 2023. This year’s event, aptly named “Chalte Chalte,” aims to honor the iconic Meena Kumari, a beloved figure in Indian cinema during the years spanning 1950 to 1970.

Meena Kumari, who embarked on her acting journey at the tender age of four, continues to be cherished for her contributions to the film industry. Bazm e Urdu Dubai, the UAE’s sole licensed and CDA-approved organization dedicated to promoting the Urdu language, stands as a beacon for preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage through meticulously curated events.

Renowned for its ability to revive the golden moments of the past, Bazm e Urdu Dubai orchestrates these events by featuring individuals who share firsthand memories of the past. The organization seamlessly blends the past with the present, as contemporary artists pay homage through music, singing, dance, and acting. The dedicated team of members and volunteers from diverse backgrounds work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring the show to life.

“Chalte Chalte” promises a captivating depiction of Meena Kumari’s life, career, and poetry through various segments.

A Play, directed by Dr. Saeed Alam, stars Tarannum Amhed as Meena Kumari, complemented by Anupama Kaushik’s enchanting Kathak performance.

In the Mehfil e Urdu an insightful touch to the event by Bazm e Urdu is “RuBaRu,” a talk show featuring Sachin Pilgaonkar, who will share intriguing insights into the life of the Tragedy Queen Meena Kumari. Hosting this segment is the talented Sania Saeed.

For a soul-stirring experience, Mehran Shah, a highly skilled Ghazal singer, will bring Meena Kumari’s poetry to life through his compositions in a Live performance.
