Sharjah: The 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, held at Expo Center Sharjah from November 1st to 12th, showcased vibrant Urdu literature. Bazm-e-Urdu (BeU) Dubai, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Urdu, played a significant role at the fair.

BeU proudly presented the first-ever Urdu books stall at SIBF, a notable achievement appreciated by the UAE’s Urdu enthusiasts. Alongside managing the stall, BeU organized the book launch of two works by senior members, Shadab Ulfat and Sarosh Asif.

Shadab Ulfat’s ‘ITRDAAN’ chronicles Urdu poets and language aficionados from various countries who resided in the UAE, showcasing their creative prowess.

Sarosh Asif’s ‘HIJRATON KA ZAMAANA’ features a collection of Urdu poems. The book launch was followed by a Mushaira, a poetic gathering, featuring renowned poets like Mehshar Afridi from India and UAE’s Dr. Sabahat Asim Wasti, Aijaz Shaheen, Shahbaz Shamsi, Shadab Ulfat, and Sarosh Asif. The session was moderated by esteemed literary figure Dr. Asghar Kamaal.

Talking to The Brew News, Sarosh Asif, whose first book ‘HIJRATON KA ZAMAANA’ was released during the event said that,” first book is like a first love. It took long time to reach this quality work. I am really excited because i think, your work will be remembered always as the reflection of your personality. I hope in future many more books will be published from my work”.

“If you write one page a day, by the end of the year you will have a full book” – Mystery writer Alex Finlay

The event received acclaim from popular media personality Aftab Iqbal, acknowledging BeU’s pioneering initiative with the Urdu book stall and praising the launched books. The gathering, presented as part of BeU’s monthly meet-up ‘Mahaana Baithak,’ was hosted by Farzana Mansoor, concluding with a vote of thanks from Sarwat Zehra on behalf of the BeU team.

This successful stint at the 42nd SIBF marks Bazm-e-Urdu’s continued dedication to Urdu literature, eagerly anticipating future endeavors!
