SHARJAH: The 40th annual exhibition of Emirates Fine Arts Society (EFAS) was officially unveiled at the Sharjah Art Museum on Tuesday evening by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Office, kicking off a major cultural celebration for the emirate.

This landmark exhibition, which is a staple on Sharjah’s cultural calendar, brings together a rich mix of creative talent, tracing the UAE’s evolving art journey. From traditional oil paintings and watercolours to experimental installations and modern ceramics, the exhibition is a visual feast featuring over 50 artists from the UAE, wider Arab world, and beyond.

Sheikh Salem toured the gallery, engaging with artists and exploring works that span photography, sculpture, acrylics and more. The curated selection by an expert committee — featuring well-known names like Khalil Abdulwahid and Dr. Karima Al Shomely — offers a fascinating blend of heritage and innovation.

Now in its fourth decade, EFAS’s annual show continues to serve as a vital platform for local and regional artists, offering them visibility and space for dialogue. It’s not just an exhibition — it’s a living archive of the UAE’s cultural heartbeat.

This year’s edition is a collaboration between the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah Museum Authority, and the Department of Culture. The show also honours Emirati pioneers of the fine arts movement, reinforcing Sharjah’s identity as a global hub for artistic excellence.

Whether you’re an art aficionado or a curious visitor, the exhibition offers a front-row seat to the region’s vibrant and diverse art scene — and a powerful reminder that creativity knows no borders.
