UAE Asian Beach Games presence shines as athletes carry national flag at opening ceremony in Sanya, China.

SANYA: UAE Asian Beach Games participation began with a strong national presence as Humaid Al Baloushi and Marwa Al Hammadi carried the UAE flag during the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games in China. The moment highlighted the country’s growing footprint across diverse sporting disciplines.

Held at Yasha Park Theatre in Sanya, the ceremony blended cultural elements with a coastal theme under the title A Date with the Sea and the Sky. It featured three main segments celebrating Asian diversity, marine heritage and global connection, setting the stage for one of the continent’s major beach sporting events.

The UAE Asian Beach Games delegation includes 31 male and female athletes competing across four sports: beach soccer, sailing, jiu-jitsu and open water swimming. The selection reflects the nation’s expanding investment in both traditional and emerging sports on the international stage.

Humaid Al Baloushi, captain of the national beach soccer team, and sailor Marwa Al Hammadi led the delegation during the ceremony, symbolising unity and representation across different sporting fields. Their role as flag bearers underscores the diversity and development of Emirati sport at continental level.

The UAE Asian Beach Games campaign runs until 30 April, with 1,790 athletes from 45 Asian National Olympic Committees competing in 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events. The competition provides a platform for elite athletes to showcase their skills while promoting the growth of beach sports across Asia.

Officials say participation in the UAE Asian Beach Games reflects continued efforts to strengthen the country’s sporting presence internationally and support athletes in achieving competitive excellence on major stages.
