In the most recent FIFA rankings, which were revealed on Thursday, the Indian men’s football team rose one notch to 99th, marking its highest position in five years.

India, who were rated 100th at the beginning of the month, had a fantastic football year in 2023. They won the SAFF Championship earlier this month, the Intercontinental Cup in June, and the Tri-Nation Series in March. They also enjoyed an eight-game string of clean sheets throughout the year.

The Indian men’s football team, currently coached by Igor Stimac and captained by Sunil Chhetri, will play its next match at the King’s Cup in Thailand in September. Additionally, India is scheduled to compete in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and December as well as the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia in October.

The 94th place India received in the FIFA rankings in 1996. India last appeared in the top 100 in 2018, when they were 96 in the globe.

India, on the other hand, is only Asia’s 18th-best squad. Iran is the top-ranked football team in Asia, followed by Japan at No. 20 in the world.

The FIFA rankings place Argentina, the defending world champions, first, ahead of France, Brazil, and England.

In women’s football, the US leads the world. Germany, Sweden, and England are next in line. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is currently being played by all four teams in Australia and New Zealand.

The 60th position is held by the Indian women’s football team.
