Dubai Sports Council to launch world’s first jet suit race

Dubai: Under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Sports Council has introduced the groundbreaking “Dubai Jet Suit Race” scheduled for February 28, 2024. A world-first, this sporting event features competitors navigating a set course using jet suits, provided by Gravity Industries, a pioneering company in jet suit technology and racing.

Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlighted that this unique event, made possible by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan’s patronage, signifies a new era in global aerial sports. Eight contestants, including the UAE’s Ahmed Al Shehhi, will partake in the event, showcasing Dubai as a host for innovative global events.

The launch ceremony at Burj Park witnessed key figures such as Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council; Richard Browning, Founder of Gravity Industries; and Samer Al Shammari, Race Director. A live demonstration featuring jet-suited competitors enthralled attendees.

An agreement was signed between the Dubai Sports Council and Gravity Industries during the ceremony, solidifying the organization of the “Dubai Jet Suit Race” on February 28, 2024, coinciding with the Dubai Boat Show. Emirati racer Ahmed Al Shehhi is undergoing rigorous training in the UK for the historic event.

The competition will unfold in the Dubai Harbor-Skydive Dubai area, ensuring a suitable water expanse. Specially designed suits prioritize health and safety, addressing concerns such as drowning protection and extra buoyancy.

Saeed Hareb expressed the Council’s commitment to bringing unique sporting events to Dubai, emphasizing the race’s global significance. He acknowledged the support from entities such as RTA, Dubai Police, SKYDIVE Dubai, and X DUBAI.

Richard Browning, from Gravity Industries, lauded Dubai’s role as the event’s ideal venue. Having flown in numerous countries, the Gravity team aims to elevate excitement with their Gravity Race Series, promising an unparalleled spectacle of human and technological achievement.

Race Director Samer Al-Shammari emphasized the event’s uniqueness and commitment to promoting the sport, not just through organization but also by attracting more enthusiasts.

The “Dubai Jet Suit Race” marks a pioneering venture into aerial sports, showcasing Dubai’s commitment to innovation and providing a platform for extraordinary achievements at the intersection of technology and human capability.
