Transparent TV’s now a reality

LG has showcased a range of see-through TVs and as you can probably imagine, the LG Display’s transparent OLEDs aren’t really designed for homes and will most likely be better suited to shops or galleries. 

One example LG has shared is the Shopping Manager Showcase, which uses transparent screens to draw attention to items on sale. 

And there’s also the Show Window, which is made up of four 55-inch transparent tellies that will give a ‘more unique and informative shopping experience’, or so LG says. 

For office spaces, there’s Smart Windows, which will ‘add a sense of openness to the conference rooms and workspaces. 

While the OLED Shelf is made up of two of these transparent screens, one layered on top of the other. The two screens work independently of each other so you could have one video playing on top of the other or use one to display moving images and one to show off static images. 

LG first introduced its transparent OLEDs in 2019 and says they’re already in use in various areas including shopping centres and museums. 

For now, all these new TVs are just concepts, which means you can’t go and grab yourself one in the January sales. 

Instead, LG can work alongside other companies to create these products.

Earlier this year, LG unveiled Extreme Home Cinema, which is a whopping 325-inches wide.

But if that’s a little bit too big for your gaff, you’ll be pleased to know they TVs are customisable. 

The company says on its website, “Available in various sizes and performance levels, LG’s home cinema displays take the guess work out of configuring which DVLED screen is right for you.

“From 2K to 8K configurations with screen sizes from 108″ to a show stopping 325″, these solutions come with virtually everything you need, except the popcorn.”

While LG is staying tight-lipped on how much the biggest version of the Home Cinema will set you back, the installation, warranty and support is estimated to cost $30,000, so you can let your mind do the wandering.

The company won’t release the total cost due to the technology being customisable in terms of size as well a picture quality.
