IKEA armchair sold for AED 58,668 at an auction

Recently, a world record was set for an IKEA piece of furniture when Bengt Ruda’s iconic Cavelli armchair was sold at auction for SEK 151,000 (AED58,668). The world record price has now attracted another copy of this very unusual armchair.

Behind this sale lies an interesting story. The current owner bought the armchair at a garage sale in the early 2000s. But since it did not appeal to everyone in the household, it had to be housed with a friend. There it remained until they both read about the record sales and then contacted Auctionet’s expert Andreas Siesing.

“Cavelli has great symbolic value and will most likely be a milestone in Swedish design history. I have been looking for the model for over ten years and the fact that I now get to see another one is incredible. This one is also very well maintained and since the model has received a lot of media attention both in Sweden and internationally, I would not be surprised if it sets a new world record. ”

The armchair will be sold by Göteborgs Auktionsverk at Auctionet’s Fine Art auction which takes place on May 15 on auctionet.com. Göteborgs Auktionsverks CEO Kristoffer Tilgman is pleased with the assignment:
