Wadi Al Qarha reserve established in Sharjah to protect wildlife, ecosystems and natural landscapes under strict environmental regulations.
SHARJAH: Wadi Al Qarha reserve has been officially established following an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, marking a significant step in strengthening environmental protection across the emirate.
The decree outlines the creation of Wadi Al Qarha reserve with clearly defined geographical boundaries, aimed at preserving biodiversity and safeguarding natural habitats. It introduces strict regulations to prevent activities that could damage ecosystems, wildlife or the area’s environmental balance.
Under the law, a wide range of activities are prohibited within the Wadi Al Qarha reserve. These include hunting or harming wildlife, introducing non-native species, damaging natural formations, polluting air, water or soil, and conducting unauthorised construction or commercial operations. Recreational activities that may negatively affect wildlife are also restricted.
The Wadi Al Qarha reserve decree aligns with Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 on environmental protection, ensuring that all living organisms within the area are preserved. It also extends protection to surrounding zones, where activities that could impact the reserve require prior approval from the competent authority.
Authorities have been tasked with managing the Wadi Al Qarha reserve, coordinating with local municipalities and Sharjah Police to enforce regulations and maintain environmental standards. Violations of the decree may result in penalties, compensation obligations and costs for environmental restoration.
The establishment of the Wadi Al Qarha reserve reflects Sharjah’s continued commitment to sustainability, conservation and the protection of natural resources. Officials say the initiative will support biodiversity, enhance ecological balance and contribute to long-term environmental resilience in the emirate.
