UAE UN Water Conference preparations are gathering pace as Abu Dhabi gets ready to welcome global leaders from December 8 to 10, 2026.
ABU DHABI: The UAE is gearing up to put one of the world’s most pressing challenges firmly in the spotlight as preparations accelerate for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi. The UAE UN Water Conference will bring governments, businesses, experts and international organisations together from December 8 to 10, 2026, with Senegal joining the UAE as co-host.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working with the National Media Authority, outlined the country’s latest preparations during a media briefing as the countdown to the December gathering continues.
The conference addresses a simple, yet urgent challenge: how can countries work together to ensure clean water and sanitation for everyone while managing increasingly stressed water resources?

Why does the UN Water Conference matter?
The conference aims to speed up progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Rather than limiting discussions to commitments, organisers want the gathering to help turn international ambitions into practical action. Finance, technology and innovation are expected to play an important role as governments and organisations look for solutions that can work at scale.
Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, said the conference would provide a platform for governments, international organisations, financial institutions, the private sector, experts and civil society to strengthen cooperation and exchange knowledge.
The UAE UN Water Conference will also focus on building partnerships capable of producing lasting results, particularly as climate change, population growth and rising demand place greater pressure on water supplies around the world.

Abu Dhabi prepares for global water talks
The conference will feature six interactive dialogues covering Water for People, Water for Prosperity, Water for Planet, Water for Cooperation, Water in Multilateral Processes and Investments in Water.
It will also operate across two distinct areas. The UN-led Blue Zone will host the formal interactive dialogues, while The Oasis, led by the UAE, will feature programming and exhibitions bringing together innovators, investors, policymakers, experts and young people.
The preparations reflect the UAE’s wider push to position water security alongside climate, energy and sustainable development as a major international priority.
With only months remaining before delegates arrive in Abu Dhabi, attention will increasingly turn towards whether the UAE UN Water Conference can move the global conversation from promises towards practical solutions.
The conference could strengthen Abu Dhabi’s role as a global meeting point for sustainability and climate action while encouraging new investment, technology and international partnerships around water security.
For water-stressed regions, including the Middle East, practical solutions emerging from the event could carry particular significance.
