DUBAI: The UAE has launched the Blue Visa, a 10-year residency permit for sustainability pioneers who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection.

Announced at the World Governments Summit 2025, the initiative is a joint effort between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP). The first phase will grant 20 sustainability leaders and innovators this prestigious visa.

The Blue Visa is designed for individuals dedicated to environmental action, including activists, researchers, award winners, and members of international organisations and NGOs. It aims to attract top global talent committed to addressing climate change and sustainability challenges.

Eligible individuals can apply directly via ICP’s website or through nomination by relevant UAE authorities. The electronic system will allow seamless approvals through applications submitted by government agencies in the sustainability sector.

The introduction of the Blue Visa continues the UAE’s sustainability push, following the Golden and Green Residencies. Dr Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted that this initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to leading global sustainability efforts by attracting top experts to contribute to national and international environmental goals.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, ICP Director-General, confirmed that the Blue Visa service will be available 24/7 through the ICP’s website and mobile app, ensuring easy access for eligible applicants.

With the launch of this initiative, the UAE strengthens its position as a hub for sustainability and climate innovation, reinforcing its role in shaping a greener future.
