Fakhruddin Properties launches Dubai’s first in-building waste management system, the 90:90 initiative, with 90% landfill diversion and zero-cost implementation.

Dubai: Fakhruddin Properties has unveiled Dubai’s first in-building waste management system with its “90:90 Waste Management Initiative,” designed to divert 90% of building waste from landfills. Launched on May 7, 2025, at Trafalgar Central in Dubai International City, the system introduces composting and sorting facilities within a residential tower — a UAE first.

The 90:90 model integrates sustainable infrastructure at no cost to residents and aligns with the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategy and Dubai’s goal to close landfills by 2027. It combines source segregation, education, and seamless waste collection. Residents use colour-coded bags for organic and general waste, supported by intuitive signage and awareness campaigns.

Yousuf Fakhruddin, CEO of Fakhruddin Properties, stated, “Our model is scalable, zero-cost, and built to enhance quality of life while tackling climate change. Sustainability is no longer optional — it’s how cities must evolve.”

Live demonstrations showcased the system’s waste-to-compost cycle, while experts discussed its scalability. Dr. Samiullah Khan, Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “This is not just about waste — it’s a shift in mindset. The 90:90 standard treats waste as a resource and embeds sustainability into urban life.”

The event was attended by dignitaries including H.R.E. Prince Saud bin Abdul Aziz bin Saud, Mr. Mohammad bin Hammad of RERA, and Her Excellency Laila El Atfani, among others.

The 90:90 initiative positions Fakhruddin Properties as a pioneer in urban waste innovation — redefining sustainability for high-rise communities in Dubai and beyond.
