Nvidia has struck a deal to deploy its artificial intelligence technology in data centers owned by Ooredoo, a telecoms group based in Qatar. This partnership spans across five Middle Eastern countries: Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia, Oman, Kuwait, and the Maldives, marking Nvidia’s significant entry into a region where US chip exports face restrictions.

Ooredoo becomes the first company in this region to offer its data center clients direct access to Nvidia’s AI and graphics processing technologies. This move aims to enhance Ooredoo’s ability to support its customers in deploying advanced AI applications, according to Ronnie Vasishta, Nvidia’s senior vice president of telecom.

Ooredoo’s CEO, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, highlighted the strategic advantage this agreement brings, noting that their business clients will gain access to cutting-edge services ahead of their competitors by up to two years.

Although the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, it was signed during the TM Forum in Copenhagen on June 19. The specific Nvidia technologies to be installed in Ooredoo’s data centers will depend on availability and customer demand.

While Washington restricts the export of Nvidia’s most advanced chips to the Middle East, some Nvidia technology can still be exported to the region. Ooredoo is investing heavily in expanding its regional data center capacity, aiming to increase it by 20-25 additional megawatts on top of the existing 40 megawatts.

Nvidia reached a $1 trillion valuation by leading in AI chips and software. Their chips are used in gaming, data centers, and self-driving cars. Nvidia’s software supports developers in creating AI applications. Nvidia has grown because more industries want AI for healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. As demand for AI keeps rising, Nvidia stands to gain.
