UAE Food Bank impacts 18.6 million lives globally through 2023 initiatives and programs

Dubai: The UAE Food Bank, a part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, reported its 2023 annual results, showcasing impactful programs benefiting over 18.6 million people globally. Established to distribute surplus food and reduce waste, the bank received support from 800 donors and organized 105 awareness programs, engaging 9,843 participants and 1,800 volunteers. With approximately AED14.7 million in funds, the bank diverted 6,000 tonnes of food from landfills, contributing to a positive environmental impact. The results exceeded set targets by 100%, distributing over 18.6 million meals and engaging 1,800 volunteers.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, emphasized the bank’s commitment to sustainability, quality, and its role in supporting the UAE’s ambition to lead the Global Food Security Index by 2051. Manal Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team, highlighted the bank’s surpassing of performance indicators and engagement of 1,800 volunteers.

The bank participated in various humanitarian events globally and delivered aid in response to natural disasters, providing relief to Turkey, Syria, Libya, and Gaza. It entered 32 strategic partnerships in 2023, contributing to the reduction of food waste and supporting local farmers. Since 2017, the UAE Food Bank has distributed over 68 million meals, organized 367 events, and formalized five Memoranda of Understanding with regional food banks.
