ABU DHABI: The Zayed and Rashid mural, the world’s largest mosaic art installation, was unveiled at Hatta Dam by Brand Dubai and DEWA. This remarkable artwork, spanning 2,198.7 square metres, celebrates the UAE’s founding fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, as part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign. Recognised by Guinness World Records, the mural recreates a historic image of the leaders during the UAE’s founding era.

This project is part of the Dubai Street Museum initiative, launched in 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It transforms public spaces into vibrant artistic landmarks, showcasing Dubai’s cultural heritage.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s Managing Director, highlighted Hatta Dam’s significance as a tourist attraction and a tribute to the UAE’s visionaries. The Zayed and Rashid mural is a symbol of national pride, reflecting values of unity and sustainable development. DEWA is also advancing a 250MW hydroelectric power plant at Hatta Dam, promoting sustainability aligned with the UAE’s carbon neutrality goals for 2050.

Crafted by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov and over 100 artisans, the mosaic comprises 1.2 million hand-placed tiles, with natural materials from Hatta enhancing its connection to the environment. The mural’s vibrant colours and cascading waterfall backdrop evoke the UAE’s rich heritage and natural beauty.

Mona Al Marri, Director General of Dubai Media Office, emphasised the mural’s role in enriching public spaces and preserving the UAE’s history. Shaima Al Suwaidi of Brand Dubai added that the Zayed and Rashid mural symbolises the enduring legacy of the UAE’s founding fathers, inspiring future generations through the power of art.
