UAE mediation efforts helped Russia and Ukraine exchange 410 captives as Abu Dhabi continued humanitarian diplomatic initiatives.
ABU DHABI: UAE mediation efforts successfully secured a new captive exchange between Russia and Ukraine, with 205 captives released from each side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.
The latest operation raises the total number of captives exchanged through UAE-led mediation initiatives to 7,101 since the start of the conflict. Officials said the exchange reflects continued international confidence in the UAE’s diplomatic and humanitarian role.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked both Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation and support for the UAE’s ongoing mediation initiatives. The ministry said the latest breakthrough demonstrates the strong relations maintained by the UAE with both countries.
UAE mediation efforts have now facilitated 23 successful captive exchanges between Moscow and Kyiv. Abu Dhabi has consistently positioned itself as a key diplomatic partner supporting humanitarian solutions and dialogue between the two sides.
In its statement, the ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting peaceful efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and reducing its humanitarian consequences.
The ministry added that the UAE remains focused on initiatives that help mitigate the impact of the war on civilians, refugees and captives affected by the ongoing crisis.
UAE mediation efforts have received international recognition over the past two years as the country expanded its humanitarian diplomacy and conflict resolution initiatives. The UAE has repeatedly stressed the importance of dialogue, de-escalation and peaceful solutions in addressing international conflicts.
The latest exchange comes amid continuing diplomatic discussions and humanitarian efforts linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. International organisations and governments have continued to support prisoner exchanges and humanitarian corridors as part of broader confidence-building measures between the two sides.
