The Vivian Wilson Desigual campaign puts Elon Musk’s daughter alongside a malfunctioning humanoid robot as she challenges AI and its growing role in creative work.
BARCELONA: Elon Musk’s daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson is taking aim at artificial intelligence in a striking new Desigual campaign that pairs her with a malfunctioning humanoid robot, while appearing to play on her well-documented differences with her estranged father.
The Vivian Wilson Desigual campaign, titled Born to Disobey, features the 22-year-old model opposite DESI84, a fictional humanoid robot designed to follow instructions. The campaign arrives as Wilson continues to build her own profile in fashion, separate from her famous family.
A robot that refuses to work properly
The campaign deliberately turns the relationship between humans and machines on its head.
DESI84 is presented as a robot created to obey, but repeatedly struggles with the tasks Wilson gives it. Campaign scenes show her walking the robot like a dog, attempting to teach it to pronounce Desigual and even using it as a golf tee.
At another point, the frustrated machine repeatedly bangs its head against a wall.
The unusual imagery supports Desigual’s wider message about individuality, imperfection and rejecting conformity, with Wilson positioned as the human character who refuses to simply follow instructions.

Why the Elon Musk connection is getting attention
The Vivian Wilson Desigual advertisement has inevitably attracted attention because of Wilson’s relationship with her father.
Musk is closely associated with artificial intelligence and robotics through his businesses, while Tesla has been developing its Optimus humanoid robot. Some media reports have consequently interpreted DESI84 and the campaign’s anti-AI message as an indirect dig at Musk. Wilson and Desigual, however, have not formally described the robot as an Optimus parody, so that interpretation remains just that.
Wilson and Musk have a publicly strained relationship. She legally changed her name in 2022, taking her mother’s surname and dropping Musk.

Wilson explains why she wanted to challenge AI
Wilson has been much clearer about the campaign’s criticism of artificial intelligence.
Speaking about the project, she said she wanted to speak out against AI because of concerns about technology taking opportunities away from talented creative professionals.
That message gives the Vivian Wilson Desigual collaboration relevance beyond its family connection. Fashion, photography, advertising and entertainment are all confronting questions about how generative AI could change creative jobs.
Desigual, meanwhile, has increasingly used high-profile cultural figures to build attention around its fashion identity. Its own recent event material lists Wilson among celebrity guests including Demi Lovato, Irina Shayk and Zara Larsson.
Human imperfection becomes the message
One of the campaign’s central ideas is simple: machines may be designed to obey, but people are not.
By combining Wilson’s public identity with a deliberately dysfunctional robot, Desigual has created an advertisement designed to trigger conversation well beyond fashion.
Impact to expect
The campaign could fuel further discussion about AI’s growing influence on creative industries, while Wilson’s connection to one of technology’s most prominent figures gives Desigual a highly shareable global talking point.
