The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology forecasts rain, dusty winds, and falling temperatures across several emirates during New Year’s Eve weekend.
ABU DHABI: The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert ahead of the New Year’s Eve weekend, warning of light to moderate rainfall, dusty winds, and a noticeable drop in temperatures across the country. The alert covers coastal, internal, and mountainous areas from Friday, December 29 through Sunday, December 31.
According to the official NCM forecast, cloudy skies are expected across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and northern emirates, with occasional showers and reduced visibility due to wind-blown dust. Temperatures are likely to dip as low as 14°C in internal areas, while wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h in exposed regions.
The NCM has urged residents to take caution, especially while driving, as visibility may drop below 1,000 metres in dust-affected zones. Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are forecast to be moderate to rough, prompting advisories for marine activities and travel.
Authorities also remind the public to monitor official updates through the UAE Weather App and avoid spreading unverified weather claims. Emergency services will remain on high alert during New Year’s Eve events, with precautions in place at major outdoor celebration zones across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
For real-time alerts, residents are advised to stay connected via the official NCM portal and mobile channels.
