UAE PASS signing credentials expire every three years. Users receiving the alert can renew them through facial verification in the app or at a UAE PASS kiosk
UAE residents who have recently received a “Your signing credentials will expire soon” alert on the UAE PASS app do not need to create a new account.
The notification relates specifically to the digital certificate used to electronically sign documents, rather than the UAE PASS PIN used to access the app and approve login requests.
UAE PASS allows citizens, residents and visitors to access thousands of government and private-sector services, digitally sign documents and verify electronic signatures.
Why are the credentials expiring?
UAE PASS signing credentials are valid for three years. Once that period ends, the credentials need to be renewed for users to continue digitally signing official documents through the platform.
The alert therefore does not necessarily mean the user’s overall UAE PASS account is expiring.
How to renew UAE PASS signing credentials
Users can tap the expiry notification inside the UAE PASS app and choose one of two verification methods.
The quickest option is facial verification through the smartphone camera. Users should follow the instructions displayed on screen and avoid wearing sunglasses or face coverings during verification.
Once facial recognition is completed successfully, the app asks the user to create a new signing password before confirming renewal. The renewed credentials are then valid for another three years.
Alternatively, users can complete verification at a UAE PASS kiosk. The UAE PASS platform provides a list of kiosk locations across the Emirates.
What happens if you do not renew?
Expired signing credentials may prevent users from digitally signing documents until the certificate is renewed.
UAE PASS itself remains an important national digital identity platform used for secure access to government, semi-government and private-sector services. TDRA says the system currently connects users with more than 15,000 services across over 1,000 digital channels.
Impact to expect
For most users, renewal should be a relatively simple process carried out directly through the UAE PASS app. Those who regularly sign government, property, banking or business documents digitally should renew before expiry to avoid disruption.
