According to Acronis’ latest Women in Tech report, 82% of female professionals believe having more women in leadership roles would improve workplace culture.

DUBAI: A new report by cybersecurity leader Acronis reveals that women working in the technology industry see a stark opportunity gap compared to their male counterparts, with more women in tech leadership cited as a key to improving workplace culture.

The 2025 Women in Tech Report titled “FOMO at Work: The Opportunity Gap Between Men and Women in Tech” surveyed over 650 global IT professionals and uncovered the contrasting views between men and women when it comes to leadership opportunities, bias, and work-life balance in tech.

Key insights show that only 60% of women feel men and women have equal access to career growth, compared to 75% of men. Over half of the women surveyed expressed concern about missing out on career-defining chances due to family responsibilities, reinforcing the ongoing gender imbalance in the tech space.

Work-life balance emerged as a core issue, with 63% of women identifying it as a major challenge to career advancement. Meanwhile, 67% of women said they need to work longer hours to keep up—more than men who reported the same.

The report also found that 70% of women place a high priority on leadership development programs tailored specifically for them. Significantly, 82% of women said that having more women in leadership positions would positively change the workplace culture—signalling a strong demand for female representation at the top.

Industry leaders are now calling for structural change. “Organizations must design programs that expand leadership opportunities, confront bias head-on, and support work-life balance,” said Alona Geckler, Chief of Staff at Acronis.

The report serves as a wake-up call for companies in the tech space to re-evaluate their inclusivity efforts and ensure they’re not unintentionally sidelining female talent. It also highlights the need for proactive leadership strategies that close the gender gap and promote diverse voices within tech.
