MBZUAI anniversary coins were unveiled as the UAE central bank marked five years of the country’s flagship artificial intelligence university.
ABU DHABI: MBZUAI anniversary coins were officially issued by the Central Bank of the UAE to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, celebrating its rapid rise as a global hub for artificial intelligence research and education.
The commemorative issuance marks five years since the university welcomed its first cohort of students in 2020, as well as its achievements through to 2025. The initiative reflects the UAE’s broader commitment to building a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy anchored in advanced technology and scientific research.
The gold and silver coins feature carefully designed elements symbolising MBZUAI’s academic mission. The obverse side displays the university’s Knowledge Centre alongside the years 2020 and 2025, marking the five-year milestone. The gold coin carries the inscription “Power from Knowledge to Serve”, encircled by the university’s name in Arabic and English and its official logo.
On the reverse, the gold coin bears the UAE national emblem, surrounded by the name of the Central Bank of the UAE. The silver coin includes intricate geometric motifs and carries a nominal value of AED50, also encircled by the central bank’s name in both languages.
In total, the issuance includes 10 gold coins and 500 silver coins, each weighing 50 grams. The MBZUAI anniversary coins have been delivered directly to the university and will not be made available for public sale through the central bank or MBZUAI.
Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at CBUAE, said the commemorative coins highlight national achievements in education and recognise MBZUAI as a leading model of specialised academic institutions supporting innovation.
Eric Xing, President and University Professor at MBZUAI, said the issuance symbolises recognition of the university’s role in embedding artificial intelligence at the heart of the UAE’s national agenda.
The MBZUAI anniversary coins underline the UAE’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence, advanced research and future technologies.
