Dubai: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, toured the Emirates Engineering Centre on Wednesday, accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE; and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

According to a statement from Sheikh Mohammed’s office, during the tour, Sheikh Mohammed examined several areas of Emirates Airline’s current cabin refurbishing initiative.

The Dubai ruler watched the airline’s dedication to delivering a great customer experience, from observing the preparation of an A380 stripped of its interiors for its impending cabin makeover to inspecting a recently restored aircraft outfitted with Emirates’ latest technologies.

Sheikh Mohammed also saw around the cabin workshops at the Emirates Engineering Centre and saw a demonstration of the deployment and testing of an airplane safety slide.

Additionally, he met with the nearly 5,500-strong team of engineers and technicians working on the refit program for Emirates, who are all highly qualified and occupy a variety of positions.

It is important to note that roughly 20% of the workforce—60% of which are UAE nationals—are female professionals. Emirates’ cutting-edge fleet of 260 aircraft may be serviced at the Emirates Engineering Centre, one of the most remarkable civil aviation repair facilities in the world.

The cutting-edge complex covers a sizable 400,000 square meters and has 12 completely air-conditioned hangars. These hangars are the biggest free-spanned structures in the Middle East, with roofs supported by 110-meter-long single spans.

Sheikh Mohammed’s visit to Dubai Airport

Sheikh Mohammed went to the Emirates Engineering Center as well as Terminal 2 at the Dubai International Airport. Insights into the workings of the airport were provided by Terminal 2, which also served as the operational hub for flydubai and 18 other airlines.

The Dubai ruler was briefed on the airport’s plans to handle the higher travel volume anticipated over the summer vacation period as well as passenger procedures intended to speed up travel.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his admiration for the tremendous progress made by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum in the building of Dubai International Airport. He highlighted the airport’s development into a significant international aviation center, which in recent years has continuously ranked as the busiest airport in the world.

The number of passengers handled by Dubai International Airport increased significantly, reaching over 66 million in 2022. The airport serviced more than 21 million people in the first quarter of 2023 alone, a stunning 55.8% increase over the same period in 2022.

Sheikh Mohammed also learned in great detail about the services offered to travelers in Terminal 2 and the ongoing initiatives taken by the airport to guarantee a secure and enjoyable journey for visitors from all over the world.
