Dubai: Dubai Police has successfully streamlined the processing time for electronic evidence cases from 27 days down to 12 days through the implementation of a new workflow linking their laboratory with police stations.

The General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology spearheaded this operational overhaul primarily targeting simple complaints and reports lodged by individuals.

Major General Ahmad bin Ghulaita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology, reiterated the department’s commitment to tackling challenges and leveraging them as opportunities for enhancing operational efficiency and achieving elevated performance standards.

Expert Engineer Colonel Rashid Lootah, Director of Electronic Forensic Evidence, emphasized the meticulous examination of time-related procedures for electronic cases, encompassing scrutiny of social media communications (phone examinations) and review of surveillance camera footage.

“This initiative has effectively transformed a significant challenge into an avenue for improvement, facilitating quicker case processing from complaint registration at the police station to report delivery,” remarked Colonel Lootah.

He further elaborated on the new timeline system, which entails stationing electronic evidence experts and technical officers at police stations and adjusting workflows to facilitate swift coordination between the forensic laboratory and evidence officers at the stations.

Colonel Lootah highlighted the tangible benefits of these changes, citing a notable 30% reduction in cases forwarded to the central laboratory, a 15-day decrease in handling time for simple electronic complaints, and a reduction in the necessity for individuals to make multiple visits.
