Dubai is transforming Dubai Creek into a spectacular nighttime attraction with an AED80 million lighting project set to be completed in 2027.
DUBAI: One of Dubai’s oldest landmarks is about to shine brighter than ever.
Dubai Municipality has officially started work on the Dubai Creek Lights project, an AED80 million initiative that will transform the historic waterfront into a world-class nighttime destination.
Stretching across eight kilometres, the project will blend modern lighting technology with Dubai Creek’s rich history, giving residents and visitors a completely new way to experience one of the city’s most iconic locations after sunset.
Think of it as giving Dubai’s birthplace a spectacular evening makeover.
The project will cover six key locations, including Al Seef, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq, the Gold Souq promenade, Al Seef Marina and the Creek entrance near Infinity Bridge.
More than 5,000 lighting units will be installed, creating stunning views that can even be seen from around 1,500 feet above the ground.
But it’s not just about making the Creek look beautiful.
The new lighting has been carefully designed to highlight the area’s historic buildings, traditional markets, waterfront walkways and cultural landmarks while creating a safer and more enjoyable experience for people exploring the area at night.
Dubai Municipality says the project will also use environmentally friendly lighting systems designed to reduce the impact on marine life, helping protect the Creek’s natural ecosystem while enhancing its appearance.
The initiative follows Dubai being recognised as the World’s Most Beautiful City at Night for 2026, further strengthening the emirate’s focus on creating unique experiences after dark.
Officials say Dubai Creek has always been at the heart of the city’s story. Long before the skyscrapers and mega malls, it was the centre of trade, business and daily life, with traditional wooden dhows using the Creek to transport goods across the region.
Now, those same waterfronts are being reimagined for a new generation.
The project is expected to boost tourism, support businesses along the Creek and create another must-visit destination for both residents and international visitors.
Construction is already underway, with the Dubai Creek Lights project scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.
