UAE SWAT Challenge, a chance to engage with elite global SWAT teams

Dubai: Superintendent Scott Guilford, Head of the Uniformed Division at the London Police Service in Canada, underscored the significance of the UAE SWAT Challenge as a valuable opportunity for their team to train alongside and compete against the world’s elite SWAT teams. Engaging with these top-tier teams aids in identifying areas for improvement and motivates them to reach and surpass high levels of proficiency.

Guilford highlighted the Emergency Response Unit’s (ERU) commitment to maintaining a high level of readiness through rigorous weekly training sessions. He expressed pride in their consistent exceptional results in local shooting competitions, emphasizing the team’s dedication to excellence.

The superintendent explained their well-rounded tactical strategy, focusing on comprehensive proficiency in every aspect. Their training philosophy revolves around the belief that ‘smooth is fast,’ emphasizing seamless execution for optimal efficiency.

Collaborative training with skilled operators worldwide allows for the exchange of ideas, innovations, and advancements in tactics, equipment, and technology. This approach keeps them at the forefront of their field, continually expanding their knowledge.

When asked about the challenges they look forward to at the UAE SWAT Challenge, Guilford expressed excitement about participating in Hostage Rescue and Officer Rescue events, highlighting their proficiency in employing a comprehensive tactical approach and operating effectively in high-stress scenarios.

Established in 1992, the London Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) has grown from 11 to 19 officers, with plans to expand further. They are an accredited Hostage Rescue Team in Ontario, consistently excelling in local shooting competitions as back-to-back champions in the Province of Ontario.
