NEW DELHI: Butter garlic naan has been officially declared the best bread in the world by TasteAtlas, a globally recognised food and travel guide. The Indian favourite secured the top position in the latest ‘Top 100 Breads in the World’ list, scoring an impressive 4.7 rating.
TasteAtlas described butter garlic naan as a traditional flatbread and one of the most popular variations of naan. Made with flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and dahi (yoghurt), the dough is baked in a hot tandoor oven, resulting in a golden, fluffy texture. Once out of the tandoor, the naan is brushed with butter or ghee and topped with finely minced garlic, enhancing its rich flavour.
This Indian classic is loved not just in its homeland but across the globe, often served with a variety of curries, dals, and kebabs. Its perfect combination of softness, slight chewiness, and rich, garlicky butter makes it a favourite in Indian restaurants worldwide.
India’s rich culinary heritage continues to gain global recognition, with various traditional dishes being acknowledged for their unique taste and preparation. The latest recognition for butter garlic naan further solidifies Indian cuisine’s status on the world stage.
With naan often considered a staple in Indian meals, this award is a proud moment for food lovers across the country. It also highlights the global appreciation for Indian bread-making techniques and flavours.
