Val Kilmer, the iconic actor known for his roles in Top Gun and Batman Forever, has passed away at the age of 65.

Kilmer portrayed Batman in Batman Forever (1995) and Lieutenant Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in Top Gun (1986), later reprising his role in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), his final film. He also starred in The Ghost and the Darkness, based on a true story set in Africa.

However, it was his portrayal of Jim Morrison, the legendary frontman of The Doors, in the 1991 biopic The Doors that made Kilmer a household name. Directed by Oliver Stone, the film delved into the rise and tragic death of the ’60s rock icon.

Kilmer died in Los Angeles, California, after battling pneumonia, his family confirmed to news agencies. He had previously fought a battle with throat cancer.

The actor had two children with his ex-wife, actress Joanne Whalley.
