Katy Perry’s giant inflatable bottle stunt took an unexpected turn after fans sent her in every direction except the one she wanted.
MALTA: Imagine trusting thousands of fans to get you from point A to point B. That was Katy Perry’s first mistake.
The pop star found herself literally going in circles after climbing into a giant transparent inflatable bottle during her headline performance at Isle of MTV Malta. The plan sounded easy enough. Fans would crowd-surf the oversized “Katyade” bottle across the audience and deliver her straight to a giant straw waiting near the stage.
Simple, right? Not quite.

Instead of moving towards the straw, the crowd started pushing the inflatable in every possible direction. One group pushed left, another pushed right, and before long, Perry was floating further and further away from where she actually wanted to be.
Realising things had gone completely off track, she started waving her hands and laughing while repeatedly telling the crowd, “Get me to that straw.”
Spoiler alert: they still didn’t.
Videos of the moment quickly spread across social media, with fans joking that Perry had accidentally booked herself on the world’s slowest amusement park ride.
Thankfully, nothing was wrong with the inflatable. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. The navigation, however, was entirely in the hands of thousands of very enthusiastic concertgoers, and that was where the plan fell apart.
After a few amusing minutes, the audience finally managed to steer Perry back towards the stage. She climbed out smiling, waved a Maltese flag, invited fans onstage and carried on performing like nothing had happened.
Ironically, the exact same stunt had worked perfectly during her show in France, where fans somehow managed to understand the assignment.
This is also far from Perry’s first viral concert moment. During her Lifetimes Tour in San Francisco, a mechanical butterfly carrying her over the audience unexpectedly tilted mid-performance. Even then, she stayed calm and kept singing.
This time, there was no technical problem, no broken equipment and no backstage drama.
It was simply thousands of fans proving that giving directions as a group is much harder than it looks.
