GOODWOOD: The luxury legend has made its next move — literally. Rolls-Royce has launched its Chess Set, turning a classic game into a handcrafted statement piece that’s more sculpture than sport. And yes, it’s just as bespoke as one of their cars.

The Rolls-Royce Chess Set is all about hosting, elegance, and precision — three things every Rolls-Royce client expects. Unfold the board (in a single smooth motion, of course) and you’ll witness a leather-lined holder rise, revealing magnetised, ceramic-coated aluminium pieces. Each piece? Jewel-topped, sculptural, and satisfying to touch — just like the metal organ stops inside the marque’s cabins.

The board’s base subtly rises in the centre, echoing Rolls-Royce’s ‘waft lines’, with aluminium edges and hidden drawers holding extra queens. Even the magnets were trialled and tested six times to get that perfect glide-meets-grip balance.

And because it’s Rolls-Royce, personalisation is king. From 13 leather colours to four luxury veneer styles (Blackwood, Macassar Ebony, Smoked Eucalyptus or Obsidian Ayous), clients can craft a set that matches their home — or their Phantom.

Each board is laser-cut and hand-assembled from veneer slices taken from the same log, ensuring wood grain consistency over time. And yes, it comes with the Spirit of Ecstasy front and back — because nothing says checkmate like a little polished aluminium.

Accessories designer Nick Abrams summed it up best: “It’s a contemporary work of art and a practical, playable game.” The Rolls-Royce of games, naturally.

Because when it comes to luxury, even pawns deserve a touch of royalty.

The Rolls-Royce Chess Set is now available for commission in Rolls-Royce showrooms and Private Office boutiques.
