Dubai: Dubai-based author Purva Grover’s book She is now available in seven languages. She was released in English in 2021 by Ukiyoto Publishing and continues to be celebrated widely for its vantage, powerful, honest, relatable, and fun approach to the topic of womanhood. The languages in which the book has been translated and published include French, German, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, Dutch, and Italian.

The non-fiction title is the labor of love of the author,  journalist, poetess, playwright, stage director, TED X speaker, and creative educator and entrepreneur, who believes in the power of stories: “Stories go to the heart and facts to the brain.”

Currently, the book (Paperback and Hardback) is available in French, German, Spanish, and of course, English, with the editions in the other languages slated for release before the end of the year. Ukiyoto Publishing has offices in Canada, India, and the Philippines.

  • International Translation Day is an international day recognizing translation professionals. It is a day dedicated to paying tribute to the work of language professionals, who play an important role in facilitating conversations.
  • “She is about female empowerment from a vantage point that has to date not widely been discussed. It’s not about male-bashing or bra-burning topics; it is a celebration of being a woman,” said Purva.
  • “If we have learned anything from the past, it is that liberation, inclusivity, and unity come through acceptance and celebrating our differences. And now, with the book available in several languages She aspires to bring forth honest, unapologetic conversations that are pro-individual with various expat women in the UAE and beyond,” added Purva.

She (in English) was celebrated via events across the UAE, and over the coming months She (in several languages) will continue to be celebrated at book signings and readings, art exhibitions, coffee mornings, ladies nights, and more. Personalized presents are the perfect way to show just how much you care about someone, and you can get the books author-signed for your sisters, colleagues, friends, and anyone in your female squad!

Pre-order (in other languages) the Paperback and Hardback book through Purva’s Zboni store: https://purva-grover.zbooni.com/collections/she/ and Amazon.ae: https://rb.gy/23zyw

Excerpts from the book

I can’t promise you about being GOOD, ALWAYS. There will be moments when I will be impatient. Moments when I will have a tough time understanding what’s so important, what’s so wrong, what’s so… blah-blah. But, I promise to pull up my socks, for what I care about most is that you made me a part of your motherhood journey. And you and I grew up together. Whilst you choose to be a mother, I choose to be an aunt. And I want you to respect my decision, my being, and my role, just like I promise to respect yours.

(For, a non-mommy needs to be heard)

How to fold bed sheets in a perfect rectangular? The exact date of my next period (Wait, does anyone know that?). Why do I hate my boss? How to iron creased pants? Color of my dream wedding lehenga. Are aliens real? How to make kale chips? What is the number of times I wash my bra? Do penguins have knees? I don’t know a LOT of other things as well in many, MANY departments. SORRY.

So every time someone asked me, “What kind of person do you want to marry?”, they were met with disappointment. If he were furniture, I would have said stable, reliable, and white. If he were candy, I would have said pink and sweet. If he were coffee, I would have said hot, bitter, and strong. If he had a WiFi connection, I would have said fast, free, and unlimited. But sadly, he was (is) none.

(A husband person would do. Thank you, please.)
