Dubai: Private schools in Dubai are doing very well in international rankings. According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), they ranked second in financial literacy and sixth in creative thinking.

PISA happens every three years and tests 15-year-olds on how they use reading, math, and science skills in real-life situations. In 2022, Dubai joined the financial literacy and creative thinking tests for the first time.

Financial literacy checks if students understand financial concepts and risks and if they can make good financial decisions. Creative thinking looks at how students come up with and improve ideas for effective solutions and creative expressions.

Dubai private schools scored 522 points in financial literacy, higher than the OECD average of 498 points. Among the 4,478 students tested, 82% said they know how to manage money, and 79% had savings goals.

PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is an international study which began in the year 2000. It aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge
of 15-year-old students in participating countries/economies.

In creative thinking, Dubai private schools scored 36 points, above the OECD average of 33 points. Out of 7,474 students, 84% performed at or above the baseline level, and 74% felt confident in coming up with creative ideas for school projects.

Aisha Miran, Director-General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, praised the results, saying they show Dubai is a top place for high-quality education that prepares students for the future. She thanked school leaders, teachers, parents, and students for their roles in achieving these results.

Fatma Belrehif, CEO of the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau, said the study gives valuable data on students’ financial and creative thinking skills. This helps schools and policymakers create better plans to equip students with future skills. She also noted that schools excelling in creative thinking also do well in math, reading, and science.

In PISA 2022, Dubai private schools ranked ninth globally in mathematics, 13th in reading, and 14th in science, all above the OECD averages.
