LOS ANGELES: In a proud moment for Indian cinema, Deepika Padukone has been named among the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026, becoming the first Indian actress to receive the prestigious honour. The announcement was made on June 20 during a live press conference at Ovation Hollywood by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Selected from hundreds of global nominees, Deepika was chosen in the Motion Pictures category alongside major Hollywood names like Emily Blunt, Timothée Chalamet, Rami Malek, Rachel McAdams, and Demi Moore. The final list includes 35 honorees across film, television, live theatre, recording, and sports entertainment.
Reacting to the announcement, Deepika shared a simple yet heartfelt note on Instagram Stories that read, “Gratitude…” Her selection marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first Indian woman from Bollywood to be honoured on the iconic Los Angeles sidewalk, which features stars of the world’s most influential entertainers.
Although she is the first Indian actress to receive this recognition, the first Indian name to appear on the Walk of Fame was Sabu Dastagir, honoured in 1960 for his pioneering work in early Hollywood films such as Elephant Boy.
Earlier this year, Mindy Kaling made headlines as the first South Asian woman to receive a star, and now Deepika joins this growing global representation with her name soon to grace the famed boulevard.
Deepika’s international presence has steadily grown over the years, from starring in xXx: Return of Xander Cage to attending the Oscars and Cannes as a global ambassador. Her upcoming Hollywood and Bollywood projects continue to generate buzz, cementing her as a cultural bridge between East and West.
As the Walk of Fame ceremonies for the Class of 2026 are scheduled to unfold over the next year, fans and industry peers alike will be eagerly waiting to see Deepika’s name immortalised among the stars.
