Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival and Sharjah Animation Festival kicks off

Sharjah: The 15th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2024) and the 2nd edition of the Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) are starting today at Expo Centre Sharjah. Organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the festival will run until May 12, while the animation conference will conclude on May 5.
Under the theme ‘Once Upon a Hero,’ SCRF 2024 will offer over 1,500 cultural, creative, and edutainment activities led by 265 guests from 25 countries. There will be participation from 186 publishers representing 20 nations. The festival will include inspiring speeches, discussions on reading habits, and addressing obstacles in the book industry.
The festival will operate from 9 AM to 8 PM (Monday to Thursday), 4 PM to 9 PM on Fridays, and 9 AM to 9 PM on weekends.
The event will feature 205 shows and performances covering topics such as sustainability, fashion, and music, presented by 19 groups from 13 countries.
Highlight productions include the Kuwaiti play ‘Your Choice’ and ‘Hum Bhi Agar Bacche Hote’ by Pakistani playwright Waseem Badami. Also, there’s ‘Tribute to Moin Akhtar,’ directed by Anwar Maqsood.
SCRF 2024 will spotlight nurturing children’s communication skills and creativity through 70 discussions led by guests from 24 countries.
The festival will honor winners of the Sharjah Children’s Book Illustration Award and host the Poetry Knight competition.
Concurrently, Expo Centre Sharjah will host SAC from May 1-5, featuring over 60 events including workshops, panel discussions, talks, and music concerts led by 70 experts from 11 countries. The conference will include the premiere of Andreas Deja’s short film ‘Mushka’ and feature industry icons like Kristof Serrand and John Pomeroy. Arab participants include Dr. Mohamed Ghazala, Islam Mazhar, and Ahmad Thabet, adding a diverse dimension to the conference.
