DUBAI: There is nothing like ending off a meal with a sweet treat, or simply having one to refresh and refuel. Expo 2020 Dubai has plenty of options to satisfy any sweet tooth. Treat your children, or yourself, with a selection of affordable cakes, cookies and sweet snacks from around the world.

Here are 10 delectable options you can pick up at Expo 2020 Dubai for AED 25 or less.

  1. Lamingtons at Melbourne Lane (AED 10)

One of the snacks available at the Australia Pavilion is a famous Australasian dessert over which Aussies and Kiwis like to quarrel. Wherever you say it is from, these lamingtons are a generous portion, and a delicious combination of sponge cake smothered in chocolate and shredded coconut.

  2. Kulfi stick at Kulfilicious (AED 15)

Looking for a sweet treat to cool you down on the go? Try India’s answer to ice cream, kulfi, served as a long, thin lolly on a wooden stick. At Kulfilicious – opposite the Algeria Pavilion – this sweet and creamy concoction is available in a truly varied selection of flavours, such as mango, pistachio, chocolate and rose. With real saffron strands in it, the aromatic saffron kulfi is a bargain.

  3. Cupcakes at Koub by Wacup Café (AED 15)

If it is time to grab a coffee and a little sweet treat – but not just any will do – look no further than Koub by Wacup Café at Al Forsan Park. Here, you can team your fragrant cup of Emirati speciality coffee with either a regionally inspired saffron or date cupcake, or go international with indulgent red velvet.

  4. Vegan cookies at Floozie Cookies (AED 16)

Everyone is well-catered for at Expo 2020 Dubai, because vegans also need something naughty to eat. Grab your sweet but ethical snack at Floozie at the Terra Pavilion, where the selection of ‘stuffed’ vegan cookies features peanut butter filled with raspberry jam and the Chocolate Crunch, which is positively crammed with ‘milk’ and dark chocolate pieces, ganache and toppings.

  5. Loaf cakes at Alif Café by Farm2Table (AED 17)

Alif Pavilion’s downstairs café is a very affordable spot for afternoon tea, because for just AED 17 you can grab a box of loaf cake with, typically, three slices in it to share. This is not just any sponge cake either: explore a whole world of exotic flavours, with cake options such as orange and Earl Grey; pumpkin, grapefruit and salted caramel; or cardamom and coconut.

  6. Croissants at La Patisserie (AED 17)

At this coffee shop in the Sustainability District, you are spoilt for choice for unique, sweet indulgences. Here, the croissant selection will delight your eyes as well as your taste buds, with options such as the bright pink raspberry croissant, or the decadent cookie topped Oreo croissant. If you are after the teeniest of sweet treats, you can even grab an apple- or berry-filled mini doughnut for just AED 4.

  7. Camel milk at Majlis Al Naseem Coffee Shop (AED 19)

If you want a uniquely UAE experience, you can’t do much better than this Emirati company’s camel milk products, which come from its local farm. Sink into the cosy ‘majlis’-inspired chairs and refresh with a drink of cold camel milk, either plain or in chocolate, date, saffron or strawberry flavour. Camel milk is naturally high in nutritious vitamins and minerals not found in cows’ milk, so you can even feel pretty good about this sweet treat to boot.

  8. Kaya butter popcorn at Singapore Sky Market (AED 20)

Once you reach the very top of the lusciously green Singapore Pavilion, you can grab a few snacks at the café upstairs. This popcorn has been magically infused with the taste of kaya butter toast, a national staple for breakfast in Singapore, made with an irresistible coconut and egg custard jam called kaya. Eat your popcorn while you marvel at the views across Expo 2020 Dubai, and team it with a traditional iced tea made with condensed milk.

  9. Doughnuts at Bread Ahead Bakery & School (AED 23)

Doughnut lovers are spoilt for choice at this artisan bakery in the Mobility District, where the daily list of flavours is as inventive as it is indulgent. Go classic with a vanilla custard filling, or go ‘wild’ with blackcurrant cheesecake or sea salted caramel and honeycomb.

  10. Kunafa at Feras Hanoun Sweets (AED 25)

Feras Hanoun Sweets in the Mobility District is a true icon of Middle Eastern desserts, famed for its kunafa and with branches all across the UAE and now, at Expo 2020 Dubai. Do not skip the chance to try this mouth-watering combination of crispy vermicelli, creamy fresh cheese and sweet syrup that is loved all across the region.
