ABU DHABI: The UAE golf expansion is driving a surge in tournaments, rising player numbers, and ambitions for the LA 2028 Summer Olympics. Since its establishment in 1995, the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has played a key role in making the UAE a leading destination for international golf events.
The country hosts world-class tournaments like the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour, with seven major events scheduled this year. This includes the Abu Dhabi Championship at Yas Links (November 6-9, 2025) and the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai (November 13-16, 2025).
Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, EGF Chairman, highlighted the UAE’s infrastructure, boasting over 26 golf courses across its emirates. He noted the nation’s appeal to sports stars due to its top-tier facilities and event-hosting capabilities.
The Emirates Golf Federation supports eight national golf teams, covering age groups from U13 to U18. Recently, the UAE’s Cubs golf team bagged team and individual gold medals at the GCC Golf Championships in Muscat. The Pan Arab Ladies’ and Youth Golf Championships in Tunisia also saw UAE teams bring home seven medals.
Player participation is also on the rise, with over 9,000 registered golfers and a total of 40,000 people playing the sport in the country. EGF’s ‘Future Falcons’ programme nurtures young talent, hosting monthly tournaments to develop future champions.
Looking ahead, the UAE is gearing up for the LA 2028 Summer Olympics. The Emirates Golf Federation is working on a dedicated player qualification programme aimed at sending UAE golfers to compete on the global stage.
The UAE golf expansion is shaping the country into a global golfing hub, blending world-class infrastructure with growing talent and top-tier tournaments.
