India compound archery delivered a clean sweep of team golds at the 2026 Asian Games, with the women matching a world record score.
AICHI-NAGOYA: India compound archery produced one of the country’s standout performances at the 2026 Asian Games as the women’s team retained gold and equalled the world record score in the final against China.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep won 238-234 at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, matching the world and Asian record set by South Korea in 2014.
Women deliver record-equalling final
India reached the women’s title match after edging South Korea 234-233 in a tense semi-final. The final was more commanding, with the trio producing a 238-point score to defeat China and successfully defend the crown India won at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.
The result also continued India’s strong history in the women’s compound team event. The country has won a medal in every edition since the discipline was introduced to the Asian Games in 2014, progressing from bronze to silver and then consecutive gold medals.
India complete compound team clean sweep
The success was part of a wider gold rush for India compound archery. Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won the mixed team event after defeating South Korea in a shoot-off following a 157-157 tie. Their victory also secured India a quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where mixed compound archery is set to make its Olympic debut.
India then completed the sweep in the men’s team event, with Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Thirumuru Ganesh Mani Ratnam beating China 238-237 in a narrow final. The three victories meant India successfully defended the men’s, women’s and mixed compound team titles at Aichi-Nagoya.
Preparation behind the gold rush
India’s archers had prepared for the Games with a specialised training camp at the Sports Authority of India centre in Sonepat. The facility recreated key competition conditions from the Japanese venue, including target layouts, screens, flags, podiums and music systems, helping athletes become familiar with the environment before travelling.
That preparation translated into precision under pressure, particularly in the women’s final, where the record-equalling 238 score underlined the technical consistency of the team.
Impact to expect
The India compound archery success strengthens the country’s standing in a discipline that will gain greater global attention ahead of Los Angeles 2028. The mixed team Olympic quota also gives India an early opportunity to build towards the event’s Games debut.
