DUBAI: The eighth edition of the Dubai International Baja, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, officially began with Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, flagging off the event. Organised by the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, the event runs from November 28 to December 1.

UAE’s oldest motorsport event
Dating back to 1979 as the Dubai International Rally, the Baja is the UAE’s oldest motorsport event. It now follows a Baja format, which is well-suited to the region’s desert terrain. The race starts in Hatta’s rugged landscape and moves into Dubai’s challenging Al Qudra dunes, offering a thrilling experience for participants. This year’s event coincides with the 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebrations.

Global participation and significance
A record-breaking 65 cars and 32 bikes from 37 countries are competing this year. The event, broadcast across 190 territories, is also the season finale for both the 2024 FIA World Baja Cup and the FIM Bajas World Cup, making it a key highlight for motorsport enthusiasts.

Emirati excellence and support
Top Emirati racers, including Mohammed Ahmed ben Sulayem, a 15-time winner, are part of the event, showcasing local talent on a global stage. His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Omar Abdullah Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman of Al Futtaim Group, were among the dignitaries present.

Collaborative effort
The Baja enjoys support from Al-Futtaim Toyota as the Official Automotive Partner, along with strategic partnerships with Dubai Police, RTA, ENOC, and Dubai Municipality. The event reflects Dubai’s commitment to positioning itself as a global hub for motorsport.
