Meta AI data centre project worth $10bn begins in Indiana as the tech giant ramps up infrastructure for artificial intelligence growth.

INDIANA: Meta AI data centre construction has officially begun in Indiana, marking a major $10 billion investment aimed at powering the company’s expanding artificial intelligence ambitions.

Meta Platforms confirmed the facility will deliver up to one gigawatt of computing capacity once fully operational. That scale is enormous, equivalent to supplying electricity to around 800,000 homes, according to US grid estimates.

The Meta AI data centre is part of an aggressive infrastructure push as global competition in artificial intelligence intensifies. Advanced AI systems require vast processing power, specialised chips and high performance cooling systems, driving unprecedented demand for hyperscale data facilities.

The Indiana project strengthens Meta’s domestic technology footprint while supporting job creation during construction and long term operations. It also aligns with the company’s previously announced plan to invest $600 billion in US infrastructure and jobs over the next three years, with data centres forming a central pillar of that strategy.

Industry analysts say large scale AI infrastructure investments are becoming critical for tech giants seeking to maintain leadership in machine learning, generative AI and next generation digital services.

The Meta AI data centre underscores how seriously the company is committing capital to secure computing capacity in a rapidly evolving AI landscape. As demand for artificial intelligence accelerates, infrastructure scale is fast becoming a defining competitive advantage in the global technology race.
